Hello PFLAG Family!Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)
We are celebrating history in Las Cruces this year. PFLAG Las Cruces is celebrating our 20th anniversary!
According to the PFLAG National website, the idea for PFLAG began in 1972 when Jeanne Manford marched with her son, Morty, in New York’s Christopher Street Liberation Day March, the precursor to today’s Pride parade. After many gay and lesbian people ran up to Jeanne during the parade and begged her to talk to their parents, she decided to begin a support group. The first formal meeting took place on March 26, 1973 at the Metropolitan-Duane Methodist Church in Greenwich Village (now the Church of the Village). Approximately 20 people attended.
It was in 1995 that Susan Brown and Bill Soules were both wanting to find other people who were trying to understand and come to terms with finding out they had a family member who Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender. After posting an ad in the local paper with the information for a confidential meeting with other parents, the two founded the Las Cruces/Doña Ana chapter of PFLAG.Watch All Girls Weekend (2016) Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download
As we continue to move into the next 20 years, PFLAG Las Cruces invites you to celebrate with us at our special 20th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, December 5th at the Ramada Palms Hotel, at the corner of University and Valley. The Social Hour begins at 6pm, our Anniversary program begins at 7pm.
At our special 20th Anniversary Celebration, we are proud to welcome Jody Huckaby, the Executive Director of PFLAG National, as our featured guest. We will be awarding the Susan C. Brown Scholarships to two college students, and presenting the Merlyn Risser Award for Service and Advocacy to Richard Parra, owner of Spirit Winds Coffee Bar.
We hope you will join us in celebrating 20 years of advocacy, education, and outreach in Las Cruces. Tickets will be available on MONDAY, November 16th at Spirit Winds, 2260 S. Locust Street. Prices are $25 for adults, $10 for students and includes dinner and drinks (Cash Bar) and a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. We will have a silent auction and a fantastic raffle!
Please note that we have LIMITED seating so you will need to get your tickets in ADVANCE. When you purchase your tickets at Spirit Winds, please make checks out to PFLAG Las Cruces. Unfortunately, credit cards purchases cannot be accepted.
Also, if you haven’t purchased your tickets already for tonight’s (Saturday) concert “Singing for Shelter” at the Rio Grande Theater, you still have time to attend. “Singing for Shelter” is a musical journey in concert format conceived by Domenic Metta, Producer, after the tragic murder of his partner, Jack, during a home invasion in 2011.
Horrified by the frightening statistics of youth homelessness and inspired by those whose selfless efforts continue the struggle to end their sad and horrific neglect, Domenic wanted to honor his partner’s memory by producing a musical event that would benefit Casa Q, the only shelter for LGBTQ youth living on the streets in New Mexico.
The concert is composed of mostly original music by singer/songwriters Ryan DeSiato and Sarah McSweeney and cellists from La Cella Bella, cello quartet of Las Cruces. Their performances will tug at your heartstrings inspiring your spirit in support of CASA Q. CASA Q also provides services as well as housing for 20-40% of homeless youth of New Mexico ages 14-17 who identify as LGBTQ individuals who have been abandoned by their families simply because of who they are.
The street party begins at 6pm, the concert begins at 7:30. We hope you to see you there!
Again, thank you for your continued support of PFLAG Las Cruces. Celebrating our 20th anniversary is very special for our Board of Directors and we would love to have you there with us.
