Looking to volunteer with PFLAG Las Cruces? We have four Action Teams that take volunteers to help us advocate, educate, and support LGBTQ+ people and their families in our community. If any of these action teams inspire you to get involved, please contact us.

Action Team 1 – Support and Community Building

Vision Statement – We envision creating relevant resources and supporting LGBTQ families and individuals.

This action team is responsible for

  • Creating opportunities for family support
  • Community building events and activities
  • Linking to counselors and other support groups
  • Planning fun events that unite the LGBTQ and ally communities, particularly targeting family participation

Action Team 2 – Education and Outreach

Vision Statement – We envision the development of specific trainings for different topics and audiences, and the coordination with other groups and individuals to conduct these trainings for different organizations.

This action team is responsible for

  • Activities promoting awareness on LGBTQ issues
  • Education activities to target LGBTQ communities/allies/broader Las Cruces community
  • Coordinating scholarship process
  • Coordinating outreach tables and ensuring that educational and promotional materials are up to date (develop library)
  • Internal board training (i.e. issues, skills, such as giving presentations, fundraising, using social media, etc.)

Action Team 3 – Advocacy and Allyship

Vision Statement – We envision a group that will strive to promote advocacy and allyship through connecting and maintaining relationships with other groups.

This action team is responsible for

  • Planning and partnering with other organizations on advocacy efforts in the community
  • Connecting and building relationships with other LGBTQ organizations and advocacy organizations
  • Reporting on ways to become involved with local actions
  • Coordinating community projects initiative
  • Looking for intersectionality of various groups for partnership (i.e. Peace Village, CAFé, etc.)

Action Team 4 – Telling Our Stories and Communication 

Vision Statement – We envision PFLAG as a conduit for people telling stories in an effort to create more awareness about the struggles, challenges, and successes of our community.

This action team is responsible for

  • All communications, both internal and external
  • Maintaining PFLAG and Rainbow Hub websites and calendars
  • Maintaining Facebook and Twitter accounts; generating event pages
  • Creating press releases and email blasts to promote PFLAG events
  • Collecting stories and feedback from PFLAG participants
