PFLAG Las Cruces began in 1995. Co-founders Susan Brown and William Soules had family members who were LBGT. Wanting to connect with other family members who were struggling with finding peace and support for their loved ones, Susan and William formed the PFLAG Las Cruces Chapter. As one of over 350 chapters in the United States, PFLAG Las Cruces was started for the same reason the very first PFLAG Chapter started.
Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation’s largest family and ally organization. Uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) with families, friends, and allies, PFLAG is committed to advancing equality and full societal affirmation of LGBTQ people through its threefold mission of support, education, and advocacy. PFLAG chapters all over the country total to over 200,000 members and supporters, crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas in all 50 states.
